@Blackcock: As far as i know byplt wasn't the one changing all maps to system map and ORIGINALLY replacing author to his name. Upon trying to make all maps at once downloadable again, he had to figure out what part of data was changed upon downloading a map but unfortunately he changed ( by accident? ) the author name for all maps.
Before that point, the author for all maps was already changed into some strange trojan-virus name regardless. So nothing was lost due to his effort of trying to make the maps available for everyone. Unless I'm uninformed about this whole story and there's stuff I do not know ( yet ).
I agree but does not make byplt the one that "hacked" the database/site. The way he achieved his goal of making all maps downloadable again can be up for debate but that's Arkshine job to take any repercussions if he feels necessary.
There are already bugs/exploits exists, waiting to be revealed, at least ddosing is pretty simple, so website need to be updated. BTW, im already shared my script to edit of the entire website, if you want, i can share again.
@rUsHnUt it's not that deep lol, I used to sometimes add the author of the map for filtering purposes while going through the maps on here, I'm not gonna beg for such a trivial privilege in the end, anyone being able to edit authors was a good idea since very few cared to, too bad
It's a good idea until someone messes up the database on purpose. Unfortunately, the days where you could trust people around a project are gone. The ability for anyone to propose changes will be back, but not without control/validation by someone.
@Arkshine: Once I'm done with checking author names for all "byplt-ed" maps, I'm gonna post a big list ( all with links ) of the remaining ones where I couldn't find either author name, author country, or both. So there's a chance the list will be long. If too long for 1 post I'll just add more until everything's posted.
Ok parabolt, thanks for the info. Please post this again, but if possible in more detail, once you see my big forum message ( post it there ). I'm currently about 65% done with the (starting) 33 pages ( 50 maps per page ), so hang on for about a couple of weeks.
What is the best option when I come across an author name displayed in a txt-file like this: Davide "Chow_Yun_Fat" Pernigo 1) David Pernigo ( real name ) 2) Chow_Yun_Fat ( nickname ) 3) Davide "Chow_Yun_Fat" Pernigo ( both )
@rUsHnUt whatever works best for filtering purposes, option 3 is probably too long of a string to properly display in the author field, so then search what the author is best known as
I haven't come across it many times ( on a couple of ported dod maps ) but so far I picked option 3. Your answer indeed makes sense to better stick with what's most known/used for any other stuff this person has made so far. Technically you can use method 3 for all authors since everybody has a first and last name but it's not the most used method.
Normally I always aim towards the most complete answer/info but for this I'll just stick to "when i see a nickname i'll pick that above anything more being provided".
