Ive been trying to archive all the maps for like 5 years now. Thanks to the stupid 50 maps per day limit, it's going madeningly slow. I still have about 15 000 maps left to go, so thats another year. Bugs like this one make things particularly hard Having to open the page of each map and then execute a browser script instead of just clicking the button makes it take that much longer
The download limit is actually 51 & there's a "trick" to bypass this. I've typed it in the shoutbox before but will not do it again since there's a reason this limit exists in the first place. If you're smart you'll figure it out yourself.
Until this issue will be fixed, all free time I have while @ work I'm manually unchecking the "System map" box for every custom map, going from newest to oldest. Yikes!
P.s.s.: I'm not gonna change author though. That's too much effort. Besides, most maps I have no clue who the author is anyway ( in case it's note included in a txt-file ).
I don't want to just archive them either, I wish to actually try them all out, select the decent ones (the ones where its clear the author put some effort into making them good) and delete all the noob trash, and host a server with whats left.... then just play with bots because everyone's gone over to CS2 :D
Well, by effort there is a lot of subjectivity, I have seen maps that are visually stunning but quite normal gameplay wise. On the other hand simpler maps like Boot, Deathcube are pretty ordinary looking but have fun gameplay
All of the maps with its .zip files and with the pictures. i guess 6 months (or 1.5 year) took. There were free proxies, captcha solver and the site down issues caused slowness. As far as i remember, 1-2k map were downloaded with my downloader per day. unarchived size is ~878gb, images are ~20gb..
@rUsHnUt, in case of HL1 maps, it's better to download Action tarball of Fileplanet by Webarchive team, it has many maps with the original files and readmes (many 17B maps here lack readme)
